Barrett's Blankets
Psalm 139:13-16
For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place, when I was woven together in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.
In May 2012, my husband and I learned we were expecting our second child. On August 6, we were ecstatic to learn that our perfectly healthy child was a little boy. We would have a girl and a boy. We named him Barrett. On August 22, I went for my routine 18 week appointment. I was so excited for another ultrasound to see my bouncing little boy kicking and hiding his face like he always did. Instead, I saw a very still little boy and no movement to indicate a beating heart. The doctor confirmed my worst fears. Sometime in the last 16 days, my son had passed away in my womb. On August 23, 2012 Barrett Luker was born peacefully sleeping. Heaven had gained a precious little angel. The hospital where Barrett was born was amazing throughout our time there. I was so grateful for the camera they gave us to take pictures of him and the keepsake box they gave us. I had never even thought to bring a camera. However, once I got home I regretted one thing: I had not gotten his hospital blanket. It was the one thing that had touched him and I didn’t have it. As I began to talk to other Angel Moms, I realized many of them shared this same regret. From this, Barrett’s Blankets was born. Our mission is to provide mothers with a special blanket to wrap their angel baby in that they can take home with them to remember their sweet angel. We work with hospitals to provide mothers with a blanket for their angels. Blankets will be provided to all angel mommies, no matter what stage in pregnancy they gained an angel baby. We also provide blankets to babies in the NICU. We are currently working with 6 hospitals in 5 states.
